There are a number of plaques placed on or near the Guimarães Castle walls honoring Afonso Henriques. Also perceptible are the somewhat contrived associations between the venerated leader and the originators of the plaques.
The first two plaques reproduced below are embedded in the Castle wall. The remainder are embedded in the base of the Afonso Henriques statue, or placed on top of it.
