At the northern tip of the Jardim do Campo Grande is a statue of Afonso Henriques, placed alongside another statue, this one of King D. João I. Both were originally placed at the entrance to the city hall, which was destroyed in the Big Fire of 1995, and subsequently moved to the park. Strangely now, although most likely not originally, they face away from the park, toward a heavily trafficked avenue with no entrance to the park.
