This house shares the site of the Paço Real de Afonso Henriques, his royal palace inside the defensive citadel. The medieval walls still surround it and inside the property gates are remnants of a Roman structure, a temple most likely. It’s a lovely bed and breakfast now, and the owner, Sergio Santos (and his wife, Claudia), identified two stones he retrieved that were used in the catapult attacks from the siege by Afonso Henriques, as well as two stone markers identifying property of the Knights Templar.
